Research activities of the Water Resources Department:
The assessment, protection and development of water resources as well as the quality of surface and groundwater in agricultural areas, with the respect to water management in agriculture and environment protection.
Scope of research works:
elaboration of recommendations and strategy in a range of construction and reconstruction of water resources of rural areas;
researches of water balance and of its quality in small rural catchments, and also study of water balance processes in catchments;
hydrological and hydrogeological basis of assessment and predictions of surface and groundwater resources changes;
numerical modelling of stream flow, movement of groundwater flow and contaminants transport; regional models and types of inflow-outflow;
research work on the quality of surface and groundwater, influence of agricultural activity on the quality of water;
research work on the assessment of land reclamation processes together with another activity and landuse on water circulation processes in the agricultural catchment; regulation of water and matter circulation in small catchments through the development of rural areas and irrigation-drainage systems management;
methodology of flood protection of river valleys and enlargement manners of valley retention;
theoretical basis of water management in agriculture, considering small water reservoirs in the aspect of water balance improvement and environment protection against pollution;
technical and non-technical methods of water retention in rural catchments, and its impact on the quality and quantity of surface and groundwater resources;
research work on the impact assessment of water reservoirs and other hydraulic structures on groundwater resources in adjacent areas;
water management methods of streams, natural and artificial reservoirs in the aspect of environment protection and limitation of surface and groundwater contaminants;
renatutization of river valleys, wetlands protection.
