Research problems:
- Identification and impact evaluation of land development on selected resources and value of natural environment
- Recognition of non-agricultural factors which degenerate the soil and water environment in municipal and agro-tourist mountain catchments
- Forming and protection of the agricultural landscape of upland areas in view of harmonisation of their socio-economic functions
- Restructuring and perfecting the principles of management of the upland areas with consideration given to ecological, social and economical balance, as well as productive and non-productive functions of grasslands
- Agricultural management in legally protected areas
- Harmonisation of socio-economic functions in trans-border and rural Carpathian areas with a large seasonal inflow of both domestic and foreign tourist from country and abroad

Scope of research works:
- Recognition and prioritising the functions of foothills and upland areas, particularly in the Carpathians
- Identification and allocation of renewable and non-renewable available natural resources
- Assessment of field, turf and forest ecosystems, with particular attention give to the vegetation cover
- Quantification of natural resources with elaboration of the principles of their rational use, reproduction and protection
- Evaluation of catchment retention capacity with quantitative-qualitative water balance
- Modification of the operations of water reservoirs, which are localised on major mountain rivers
- Impact evaluation of the permanent and temporary population on changes taking place in the natural environment
The scope of research services:
- Studies and expert opinions
- Analyses, evaluations, elaboration of recommendations, directions and assumptions etc.
- Concept and survey works synthesizing actual state, correctness of assumption, intentions and directions of transformation
- Laboratory services
- Training services in the area of environmental protection and the relation between pollution and human activity
- Monitoring water pollution, particularly surface waters
- Organisation of conferences, seminars, scientific meetings, and workshops

Mountain Research Station at Jaworki is a part of Malopolska Research Centre. It's operating since 1953 in the area of meadow and pasture, as well as low-input form of production in the mountain. Also deals with an impact of land use on quantity and quality of water resources. Research activity, observations and results continuously since 1953. |
