The
most important Institute's accomplishments include:
-
the world unique scientific
research results, which have been conducted continuously for almost half
a century in the biggest national glades: in the Biebrza, Narew, Notec,
and other Polesie Lubelskie river valleys;
-
creation in the Institute of
the Polish school for bog science and agromelioration of heavy soils, and
also formation of the foundation for the Polish grassland science;
-
the environmental monitoring
in selected river drainage areas and their tributaries regarding the surface
and ground waters status, precipitation and surface waters quality, soils
and vegetations, emissions and absorption of nitrogen agents by animal
breeding farms, bacteriological research of ground waters.
The Institute as the only
organization of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development:

specializes in setting up
practical methods to limit the negative impact of agricultural production
on the water, soil, and air quality;
-
collects results from long term
research and hydro-meteorological observations using a network of data
gathering sites, which allowed to prepare a number of methods used to resolve
problems in the field of flood and drought protection of the rural areas;
-
conducts a comprehensive scientific
research and science development activities regarding the grasslands and
rural areas water supply as well as sewage plants in villages, including
the biological sewage plants.
For its achievements the Institute
was honoured a number of times with numerous awards .

The Award of the Ministry
of Agriculture and Food Management for the research: "The system of pro-ecologic
activities and investment organizational ventures, which set conditions
for a balanced rural development with a domination of cattle farms, set
up and implemented as part of the PHARE P9312/06 project: 'The rural areas
infrastructure for water management'", Warsaw, 1999.

Agriculture and Food Management for the research: "The methodical and practical
foundations, and rules of controlled water management in irrigation systems",

The Award of the Szczecin Province
Authority for co-operation in preparation and implementation of the project:

Province" received from the province authority, Ostrołęka, 1997.

The distinction granted by the
United States Environmental Protection Agency for leadership and management
of environmental programs to protect water quality in the Republic of Poland,
1997.

Certificate of Proficiency of
the Minister of Environment Protection, Natural Resources and Forestry
for realization research works supporting national ecological policy in
the range of rationalization of water resources use and management. The
program: "Scientific bases of strategy for national water resources protection
from pollution". Warsaw. 1998.

Certificate of Appreciation
awarded to Prof. Dr Andrzej Sapek for commendable efforts to strengthen
the partnership between Polish science and agriculture through participation
in the "Bridges From Science to Practice" grants program. United States

Self-government - LGPP" and "American Development Agency - USAID" for realization
